Puncak Trip (3): Taman Safari

This will be the last entry of our Puncak Trip.
Please see this entry  dan this entry untuk cerita sebelumnya ya.

Aku kayanya gak akan tulis banyak2 lagi soal Taman Safari... udah ketiga kali-nya ini kita kesini... (kok kurang semangat lagi ya hihihi).
Kalau mau baca yang kemarin2 monggo klik disini ya.
Surprisingly harga tiket masuknya masih sama kayak 2 tahun lalu kita pergi..

Faith kasih liat elephant-nya :)

Into the jungle: Safari Lodge/Caravan Hotel and Cimory Riverside

During our last trip to Puncak, we stayed at Safari Lodge - Caravan Hotel, which is a hotel managed by Taman Safari itself.

The weekdays rate is Rp 750,000/night (receive discount Rp 50,000 for entrance fee to TSI)
Weekend rate is about Rp 1 million
However last time we were charged Rp 1,450,000/night (maybe due to long weekend) !! but we received 4 free tickets to TSI.
Being an accountant i immediately counted the difference, it was about Rp 300,000 hehehe

The caravan was okay, all clean (although Toma found about 3 cockroaches)
We were only provided with one blanket..
And it was verrryyy cold at night.. , so if you want to stay here better to bring extra blanket and jacket.

The breakfast was also so-so.. just standard fried noodle/bihun, soup, fruits, toast, cereal..

However the surrounding was very refreshing...
There were lake, river..monkeys, swans, swings, statues of animals etc...
Oh ya, the kids especially loved the swings.. :)

I'm not picky, but i think i can get a better (and warmer) hotel with the same rate.
I guess they are trying to sell the "spend-the-night-at-the-jungle" experience..

Cimory Riverside

Before going back to Jakarta we decided to have lunch at Cimory Riverside..
When we arrived there the place was already packed with people.. we have to wait about 15 minutes for our table to be ready.

I think the place is like Bandung's Prima Rasa/ Kartika Sari..  everyone will stop here to buy some snacks/milk for their friends/families back in Jakarta.

We had some sausages and strawberry jelly, picked up some snacks and soya milk.., played at the playground, took some pictures and went home before the road was closed (one way up).

Trip to Taman Safari Cisarua

The last long weekend we went to Taman Safari Cisarua, Bogor.
It turns out that it was already 3 years ago since we went there. Last time it was on April as well!
What a coincidence!

To avoid traffic, we went there on Thursday morning before the holiday, and went back on Friday when people were just coming up. We actually planned to go on Wednesday, but Daniel had diarrhea, so we decided to postpone the trip to Thursday. The only setback on this was the different hotel rate, which was quite a lot :)

We left Jakarta at about 7.30ish and arrived about 10.30am, which was quite good considering Toma accidentaly forgot to take left turn to Jagorawi. So we ended up taking the nearest exit and went back to the reverse direction, which traffic was quite bad (due to weekdays where everybody still on Jakarta bound).

Immediately after reaching Puncak, we were greeted with a cool and fresh air...
Learning from previous trip, we bought 7 bundles of carrots to feed the animals in the street near Taman Safari (3 bundles = Rp 10,000, if you buy 2 you receive 1 bundle extra). There were several carrot seller in the street. I guess they were offering the same price. So you don't have to choose whose to buy from.. (not a good business btw).

Upon arriving, we went to the Safari Lodge/Caravan Hotel (I will make a separate post about this) to confirm our reservation and received the free tickets to Taman Safari.

If you don't stay at the hotel the entrance fees are as follows:
Entrance fee for adult: Rp 150,000
Entrance fee for kids > 1 year: Rp 140,000
Car: Rp 15,000

Then, off we go!

Like most people, we drove around the safari trails and feed the animals first before going to the play areas.

Toma opened all of our car's windows.. so ocassionally there were animals peeking through the window which caused me to scream and kind of scared Daniel.. (sorry kiddo... )

When we passed through the lion's area, a lion suddenly walked accross  the street..., my heart kindda stopped a while hehehe
It was a "truly safari" experience.

some of the amateur photos that i took
After finishing the safari trail, we went to have lunch at the food court.
I was a bit surprised with the food price.. it was quite expensive and the taste was very substandard..
Maybe next time I consider to bring lunch from home and have picnic in there :)

After having lunch we went to the penguin area.., looking at the tiny penguins and took some pics..
It was the first time I saw penguins in Indonesia.. I think there were none in Batu Secret Zoo.

Then we went to catch the cowboy show at 2pm
We were there a bit too early, so we explored the area first. There were some cows (very smelly though...) and small artificial waterfall and river... There was a souvenir shop as well, which has a good variety of animal dolls...

The cowboy show area was large,  i think it was the largest area among all the shows.
Daniel was a bit scared at first due to the sound of gunshot, etc..  He held me very tight.., but after a while he was okay. I put my hands on his ears just in case.
I think the show was not really appropriate for children since it involved mild violence..
However, the show was quite good, in terms of the sound effect and props.
It's a bit "hollywood" kind of stunt..

beginning of the show.. (i didn't take any more pics because it wasn't allowed)
From Cowboy Show we drove and parked near penguin area to see the sea lion show.
The sea lion show was quite similar to the one we saw at Ancol Dream Samudra.
There were 3 sea lions, one female (named Cinta Laura btw hehehe) and two males..
The highlight of the show was the trainer climbed on the pole (which has two red balls), and put the fish on her mouth. The sea lion had to jump from inside the pool to eat the fish right from the trainer's mouth :) I wondered what if the sea lion missed and eat the trainer's mouth instead.. >_<

sea lion show's setup

take pictures first..
After sea lion show we sent to see the tiger show.
The kids were already very tired and sleepy... while waiting Daniel was fallen asleep and slept throughout the whole show.. Faith was also very sleepy, but she woke up when the show just began.

This was the first tiger show that I watched.
Even though the tiger were properly trained, I could see that the trainers were very alerted.. not laid back like the sea lion's trainers..

tiger show
After the tiger show, since we were already tired, we decided to go back to the hotel...

The next day, since we were the hotel's guests, we can enter the Taman Safari again, but not the Safari trails. So we decided to pick up what we haven't seen on Thursday (gak mau rugi hehe)

First stop was to the Baby Zoo..
Inside the baby zoo was a collection of birds..., kangaroo, orangutan and also tiger/lion.
We can also take pictures with the tiger/lion with Rp 20,000 per person..

suspension bridge.. daniel was so happy jumping on the bridge :)

birds and waterfall

While taking pictures, i heard a mom told her son about Faith,,, "tuh liat dia aja berani...."
Then suddenly the lion waved her tail... and look at Faith's expression :)
Faith takut juga kok tante hehehe
We also saw Elephant show, but i didn't take any pictures..
We also offered Faith for pony ride but she didn't want it.
There were a lot that we didn't do in Taman Safari such as riding the camel/elephant, playing at the mini themed park, or swimming at the waterpark. But we were more than happy.

Since it was already around noonish, we decided to go to Cimory to catch some lunch before heading home.

Bahtera Nuh

It's been about five months since we visited the kids at Yayasan Tuhan Gembalaku, so on last Easter long weekend we decided to take them to see Bahtera Nuh Musical Drama at Sentul International Convention Center.

We went early in the morning to catch the show at 10am. Even Faith, usually woke up late, managed to woke up early. She was excited to see the elephant.

We missed one exit and ended up exited at Bogor! but lucky for us, the show was a bit late, so we didn't miss a thing.

The show was really nice, it combined drama, music and also included live animals from Taman Safari.
Faith was a bit afraid when the music was playing a suspense tunes, but other than that she seemed to enjoy it. I do hope the kids enjoyed it too.

The kids were very nice, they followed their guardian nicely and sat all through the show, even during break!
On the way back we ate at the cars, because there was no place to eat and it was already lunch time.
All the kids ate their food by themselves very neatly (even the little one at 3 y.o) and they even carried the box with them  (didn't leave them in the cars).

Trip to Puncak, West Java

After family gathering at Pelabuhan Ratu, my office held another gathering to Puncak on 20 - 22 April 2012. This time was only for finance team.

According to WikipediaPuncak (English: Peak) is the popular name for the area surrounding the peak of Mt.Gede-Pangrango, located in the Bogor-Cianjur-Sukabumi regencies, West Java, Indonesia. This area is a popular holiday area for the residents of Jakarta, the capital city, and its satellite cities. It has fresh air and mountain scenery (indeed :)).

Before going there I had to come to the office for some reporting purposes. Toma and Faith picked me up at the office then we went directly to Pak Chris' (my boss) villa, Puncak Kana. At the office Faith cried a bit when meeting my colleagues (Nella and Ata). It turned out she was thirsty and was calmed right away when given a bottle of milk :) She sat nicely on the car seat for almost the whole trip (thank goodness).

We arrived at Puncak Kana just in time for dinner. My colleagues and their families were already there.

The next day we wanted to go to Taman Safari, but the road was closed before we reached there. During weekends, to avoid traffic, from 9-11.30 am all vehicles are only allowed to go to the summit (road from the other way, i.e. Puncak to Jakarta, is closed), while from 3-5 pm is the other way around. Since Puncak Kana's location is above Taman Safari, we have to reach Taman Safari before 9am.

We decided to postpone the trip and went back to the villa.
On the way back we decided to stop at Kota Bunga. It used to be a popular destination at Puncak. However nowadays it wasn't as popular. Maybe because the flowers were not maintained as they used to be or they started to charge an entrance fee?

We took Faith to a petting zoo there. The zoo was very small but I think Faith was easy to please :)

Afterwards we went back to the villa. At night we went to De Brasco Outlet to pick up some gifts to my mom, mom in law, faith's nanny, mom's maid. I also bought Faith a Hello Kitty shirt.

The last day we woke up earlier to be able to reach Taman Safari before the road was closed. However, my friend Mindo and Mul and their families missed it. Luckily they were able to hire a guide to find an alternative route.

Upon arrival we circled around Kawasan Satwa by car. We fed the animals with carrot (given by Heny as we didn't know that we could feed them hehe). It's amazing that all animals there like carrot? ^_^

Afterward we took pictures in the elephant area and went inside the baby zoo (birds and tigers).
We also took pictures with a tiger... at first Faith was busy looking at the tiger instead of the camera hehe..

Too bad we have to go back home to avoid traffic. Otherwise we would have spend more time to explore other attractions in there. Maybe in another visit?? We'll see :)
